Quick Tip: Change Firefox Download File Location

I prefer files being download directly to the desktop, but a lot of other people would prefer to download into a downloads folder, or a directory inside their Documents directory.

Changing this option is extremely easy. Just open Tools \ Options, and you should see the Downloads section right on the very first screen.

Click the Browse button to select a new folder. You can also choose to have Firefox always ask you where to save the files, and you can turn off the “Downloads” window (which always annoys the crap out of me, so it’s an instant disable on every Firefox install)

You may want to specify the default download directory in Internet Explorer. This is useful for those who always perform download using Internet Explorer. Just follow the steps below and you will set the default download directory for Internet Explorer:-

• Go to Start -> Run -> type regedit and enter
• Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Internet Explorer
• Create a new String value with key Download Directory and set the value to a valid directory (ex: C:\Download) * if this key already exists, just modify the value
• Congratulation! You have just specify your Internet Explorer default download directory

To take immediate effect of your default download directory, logoff or restart your windows.

How to Load Firefox Faster During First Time After Computer Startup

To improve the loading time, follow below steps as shown below:

1. Right click on Firefox shortcut, then choose Properties.

2. On Target field, it displays Firefox executable full path. Add /prefetch:1 at the end of the path with space in between. After adding the switch, the target field should looks like this: “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” /prefetch:1

3. Click OK to save the setting.
